Romney Set to Announce Running Mate

US Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will announce his running mate in the November election on Saturday, his campaign said in a statement.

Romney will unveil his vice-presidential running mate at an event in Norfolk, Virginia, at 13:00 GMT.

US media reports quoted unnamed sources as saying Romney had selected Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, but no official confirmation of it has been received.

The announcement will be made during a tour of a former battleship, USS Wisconsin, which is docked in Norfolk.

Romney will then set off on a four-state bus campaign trip.

Recent opinion polls suggest the former Massachusetts governor is locked in a close race with US President Barack Obama in the November 6 vote.
