Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has met with representative of the Bulgarian community in the United Kingdom.

In the course of Thursday's meeting, he said that Bulgaria needed high-educated people to brush up its image abroad.

"The education system is very conservative. If we want a serious change, we need to start it now so that we can pick the fruits of our labors in 5-6-10 years," the President added, as cited by mediapool.bg.

"New priorities, industries, clusters, and, of course, a highly-qualified staff that can propel these industries forward. This is the recipe of all rich states," Plevneliev stated.

The work visit of the President in the UK continues Friday.

He will meet with Bulgarian Olympic athletes at the reception given by the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) on the occasion of the Bulgaria Day at the London Olympics, according to the President's press office.

Plevneliev will support Bulgarians competing in Olympic finals on Friday.

The Bulgarian head of state will also attend the official closing ceremony of the Games, and the reception hosted by UK PM David Cameron on August 12.
