12 of the Bulgarian sailors serving the Ocean Star Pacific cruise ship have chosen to remain on the vessel in spite of the lack of work and not having received their wages, announced the Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The ship, bearing a Panama flag, has been docked for more than two months in Mexico's Pacific port of Mazatlan.

19 of the Ocean Star Pacific 90-strong crew are Bulgarian citizens. 7 of them have already been returned to Bulgaria.

"After receiving a signal about the situation, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with Bulgaria's Maritime Administration and the embassies in London and Mexico City took up steps to solve the case," reads the Ministry's statement.

The Ministry has said that it is in constant contact with the Bulgarian crew members and their employers to ensure the full resolution of the situation.
