Aston Villa Confirm Stan Petrov on Remission from Leukaemia

Following conflicting reports, UK football club Aston Villa have released a statement saying their Bulgarian captian Stiliyan Petrov is on remission from leukaemia.

Even though more struggle with the disease is yet to come, Petrov has won an important battle, the English team has said.

"Stan would like to take this opportunity to express his deep gratitude to the medical staff who have looked after him so well since his condition was diagnosed just over four months ago," reads the statement.

Petrov and his team have further thanked fans worldwide, as well as other players, who have shown their deep support and sympathy with his condition.
