Rangelova Sets New Bulgarian Record in 200m Freestyle Heats

Bulgarian swimmer Nina Rangelova set a new national record at the 200m freestyle event but failed to make it into the semi-finals at the London 2012 Olympics.

Rangelova finished sixth in Monday's heat four of the 200m freestyle, staying among the first three until the last turn on the 150m.

Rangelova swam the 200m in 1:59.21, topping her previous personal best and national record by 9-hundredths of a second.

Rangelova ranked 19th in the heats, 25- hundredths of a second away from place 16 occupied by Slovenia's Sara Isakovic.

On Sunday, Rangelova set a new national record on 400m freestyle, winning heat two of the 400m freestyle.

The Plovdiv-born swimmer swam the distance in 4:11.71, topping her personal best and national record of 4:12.21.

Rangelova ranked 23rd and did not make it into the semi-finals.

21-year-old Rangelova will also swim the 100m freestyle on August 1.

Meanwhile, Sofia-born Ekaterina Avramova also failed to make it into the semi-finals in the 100m backstroke on Sunday, swimming the distance in 1:02.20.

20-year-old Avramova, who is making her Olympics debut, ranked 31st in the discipline.

She will also swim the 200m backstroke on August 2.
