Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has invited the British Queen Elizabeth II on a formal visit to Bulgaria, the Presidency press service announced.

Plevneliev was in London for the start of the 2012 London Olympics; he is to send a formal invitation for a Bulgarian visit to Queen Elizabeth over the upcoming week, his press office said Saturday night.

The Bulgarian President has also met with the Duke of Kent, who chairs the British royal association for preserving military monuments. The two of them are expected to announce a joint regional initiative for the preservation of military cemeteries.

The Duke of Kent has also expressed England's gratitude to Bulgaria for the heroic deed of Plamen Petkov, a Bulgarian immigrant who died last month saving an English kid from drowning.

During his trip for the London Olympics, Bulgarian President Plevneliev has also had meetings with the German President, the Austrian Chancellor, the Danish PM, and the Swiss Chancellor, the Presidency said.
