GP Fee in Bulgaria No Longer Tied to Minimum Wage

The general practitioner (GP) fee in Bulgaria will no longer be determined on the basis of the minimum wage, according to amendments to the Health Insurance Act passed on second reading Wednesday.

Prior to the adoption of the legal changes, the fee amounted to 1% of the minimum wage.

Under the abovementioned amendments, the cost of visiting a general practitioner will be determined by the Council of Ministers.

After the minimum wage in Bulgaria was increased from BGN 270 to BGN 290, the GP fee was also facing an increase from BGN 2.70 to BGN 2.90, but the government proposed changes making it possible for the tariff to remain unchanged.
