Dangerous Scorcher Returns to Bulgaria

Code yellow has been declared for 11 Bulgarian regions for Friday over the forecast for dangerous heat.

The forecast is issued by the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.

The regions under code yellow are: Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Blagoevgrad, Yambol, Stara Zagora, and Haskovo.

Temperatures are to reach anywhere between 31 and 36 degrees Celsius, about 33C in the capital Sofia.

Code yellow means potentially dangerous weather, where the forecast is not for unusual meteorological events, but requires people to exercise caution.

The mercury will continue to rise in the upcoming days and it is expected that codes orange and even red will be issued for most of Bulgaria.

Code Red is declared for temperatures above 41C. It means the weather is extremely dangerous with very intense meteorological events and possibility for damage and casualties.

Code orange means intense weather situations with potential damage, injuries and casualties.
