Miroslava Todorova, Chair of the Bulgarian Judges Association (BJA) and judge at the Sofia City Court (SCC) is facing dismissal from the judicial system.

The matter will be decided Thursday by the Supreme Judicial Council, VSS.

This is the second proposal to punish Todorova for delaying Court cases. It stems from a kidnap case where she is accused of writing motive in the course of 4 years and 8 months, leading to the dismissal of of the case on grounds of prescription.

The magistrate is also involved in presiding over a murder case, where she wrote motives in 4 years, and was further probed for writing motives in the case against drug lord, Vasil Manikatov, in 2 years and 5 months.

The VSS debates are expected to be extremely heated.

As BJA Chair, Todorova emerged as the strongest critic of VSS and of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, against whom she filed a libel lawsuit.

Her ousting is seen by many as an attack on those wanting to reform the judicial system. She has already been penalized by a wage reduction.

The Bulgarian Helsinki Committee has reacted strongly to the news, issuing a statement that those in power in the country are acting as mafia punishment unit, making a brutal attempt to disarm the effort of the judiciary to elect honorable individuals for the new VSS.
