Balkan folk-rock, blasts of brass and clarinet and a thumping turbo-folk beat will fill the biggest hall in the Bulgarian capital Sofia on November 29 during the keenly awaited concert of Goran Bregovic.

He will be accompanied by his Weddings and Funerals Orchestra and will offer an eclectic mix of musical styles with his most popular songs, as well as those from his new album Alkohol.

Bregovic is one of the most internationally known modern musicians and composers of the Balkans, but he surely feels at home in Bulgaria, having performed here a number of times.

Originally from Sarajevo, he was the leader of Bijelo Dugme, one of Yugoslavia's most popular rock bands. Going solo, he became an inspired pop-rock interpreter of the region's gypsy music, forging a fruitful partnership with the film-maker Emir Kusturica.

Among his better known scores are Emir Kusturica's films - Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, Underground.

Having fled to Paris during the Yugoslav wars, he widened his film soundtrack work to French cinema, including the 1994 costume drama La Reine Margot.

Since 1998, Bregovic has been performing his music mainly in the form of concerts all over the world with his Weddings and Funerals Orchestra.
