The 1 000-MW Unit 6 of Bulgaria's "Kozloduy" Nuclear Power Plant has been switched off from the electric network of the country at 4:19 am Saturday.

The switch-off happened after an automatic tripping of one of the defense mechanism of the turbine generator.

The switch of the turbine generator, part of the conventional, non-nuclear section of the unit, had not led to the activation of the emergency defense of the reactor, the NPPs press office informs.

The radiation level in the area remains unchanged. The Nuclear Regulation Agency has been notified.

Experts are working to eliminate the problem and Unit 6 is expected to be back in function and in the electric network later on Saturday.

The other 1 000-MW unit – Unit 5, is working at 100% capacity.
