Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) has announced amendments to an ordinance authorizing currency exchange outside banks and currency exchange offices.

The amendments, which entered into force this week, allow currency exchange at currency exchange machines.

The special ATMs will only exchange foreign currency into BGN.

The owners of currency exchange ATMs will have to present documents at the NRA guaranteeing that fraud is impossible.

The currency exchange equipment will issue receipts for the deals.

The newly adopted amendments also provide for a simplified procedure for the registration of currency exchange offices.

Under the new provision, the revenue authorities will acquire the information through official channels.

The requirement for currency exchange offices to post their daily exchange rates on notice boards has also been amended.

The new terms require the buy/sell rates to be provided up to the third digit after the comma.

Until now the requirement was to provide the rates up to the second digit after the comma.

The amendments allow a 30% deviation from the size norms set out in the ordinance for currency exchange units using electronic boards.

Another new requirement is that the boards of the currency exchange offices must provide the phone number of the NRA call center, 0700 18 700, rather than the phone number of the respective territorial NRA unit, as was the case prior to the changes.
