Photovoltaic Park in Northern Bulgaria Blasted by Grenade

The command module of a large photovoltaic park near the northern Bulgarian village of Pobeda, Pleven district, was blasted by a grenade.

The explosion took place early on Monday morning and rendered the electronic equipment inoperable, according to reports of Novinar daily.

The blast caused tons of oil from the transformer cooling system to leak.

According to locals, accident took place just ahead of the connection of the photovoltaic system to the grid of the National Electric Company (NEK).

The security guards heard the blast but the police was notified about the accident 12 hours later.

Asked to comment on the matter, officers at the district police directorate in Pleven confirmed that they were investigating a main version involving an explosion caused by a rocket-propelled grenade.

The solar park is reportedly owned by diplomat Elizar Manov and two other Bulgarians.

The photovoltaic panels occupying a territory of 1000 decares had been built by a Romanian company.
