Some 350 Bulgarian volunteers, firefighters, police officers and forest rangers are still struggling to extinguish the wildfire that has been raging in the Vitosha Mountain near the capital Sofia.

Three helicopters are taking part in the operation.

The fire has affected an area of approximately 15 acres and is Vitosha's largest for the last 10 years.

The fire area is currently not growing, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov told the Btv channel early on Tuesday.

The wildfire in the Bistrishko Branishte resersve started at about 2 pm on Sunday; about 10 acres of forest with fir trees were on fire on Sunday afternoon in a largely inaccessible region.

On Monday, officials said the fire had been tamed on the western side of the slope.
