A bus carrying 20 passengers caught fire and burned down early on Monday near Silistra in northeastern Bulgaria.

The tip-off for the accident was received at 8.05 a.m. by 112 emergency operators.

The fire most probably started from the bus' engine.

When smoke started coming out of the bus, the passengers were taken off the vehicle.

No injuries or damaged luggage have been reported.

The people had been travelling to work from Silistra to the village of Ishirkovo.

The swift actions of the driver prevented a much more serious outcome.

The bus had been bought 8 years ago by a local bus company and had passed all technical inspection tests.

A team of police officers has been dispatched to the site to determine the cause of the blaze.
