The Bulgarian Ambassador to the UK Konstantin Dimitrov visited Harborough to open a college's new building.

VIP guest Konstantin Dimitrov was invited to unveil a plaque to officially open Brooke House College's new Paul Kitchener Building, The Harborough Mail reported.

The extension building – named after a long-serving member of staff at the college who died in 2010 – is based at the former site of the Trades and Labour Club (behind Zizzi's restaurant in High Street).

The latest addition to the college's bases in the town will be used for private studies, big projects and leisure activities, such as table tennis and pool, plus there is a small stage and two meeting rooms.

College principal Giles Williams said: "We were delighted to have Mr Dimitrov attend our opening and we are pleased it was a success."

He added: "Paul was a well liked, respected member of staff here at the college so we chose to name the new building after him in remembrance."

The visit was organized through the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce to promote links with Bulgaria. The college also has several students from Bulgaria.

Williams also confirmed the college had recently bought the former Union Inn pub in Leicester Road, empty since March 2010, and plans are under way to turn it into accommodation for students by January 2013.
