International Police Operation Busts Bulgarian Prostitution Ring

Europol, Eurojust and police authorities in Bulgaria, France, Poland and Belgium have dismantled a human trafficking ring involving Bulgarian women used as sex workers, it has been announced.

"France, Bulgaria, Poland and Belgium joined forces to dismantle a criminal network involving trafficking of human beings," the agencies said in a joint statement in The Hague, as cited by Expatica Netherlands.

"Young women were recruited in Bulgaria for the purpose of sexual exploitation in several European countries including Belgium and France," the agencies said, explaining that proceeds from the gang's activities were sent back to Bulgaria and "invested".

Arrest warrants issued at the request of French authorities have resulted in the arrest of 9 suspects in France, Belgium, Poland and Bulgaria.
