The EU and Georgia have started talks on liberalizing their visa regime, said EU ambassador to Georgia, Bulgarian Filip Dimitrov.

In an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio Saturday, Dimitrov stated that this is a clear sign of appreciation on the part of the European Union.

"The EU values Georgia's efforts and accepts warmly the idea of Georgia's becoming ever closer to Europe," said the EU ambassador.

Dimitrov assessed the development of reforms in the Caucusus country as good, but said that the process of acquiring full-scale EU membership is not yet on the agenda.

Filip Dimitrov, a former Bulgarian PM, was the first Bulgarian to be included in the then newly-founded European External Actions Service (EEAS) in late 2010.
