Woman Dies Crossing Bulgaria Highway, Child Survives

A woman has perished after a seemingly random attempt to cross Bulgaria's Trakiya Highway overnight, with her baby in a baby-carriage, with the kid miraculously surviving.

The 27-year-old from Saedinenie in central southern Bulgaria attempted the extremely dangerous and forbidden crossing around 10 pm Saturday, in darkness and heavy traffic.

She was reportedly hit by several cars, whose drivers were caught unawares, and was killedon the spot.

The small child, driven in a baby-carriage, survived by some chance event, and is hospitalized in the city of Plovdiv without serious injuries.

Apart from the 1 and a half year old with her, the woman has another child, who at the time was being taken care of by her husband.

The police informed that it is carrying out an investigation on the case, and is considering the motives that might have led the mother to do the unlikely act, including a desire to commit suicide.
