Russia and the USA have reached many areas of agreement regarding the peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Syria, after Russo-American consultations held in Moscow.

Russian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Gennady Gatilov described the talks as "useful" and stated the two great countries found "a lot of common points during the talks."

"I hope that together we can find a way for a political solution of the crisis," wrote Gatilov in his Twitter account.

Since the start of the Syria conflict in early 2011, Russia has insisted on a political resolution of the crisis in the country, resisting the approval of any embargos.

Russia also vehemently opposes using international military force to intervene in the conflict between the government of President Bashar Al-Assad and rebel forces - something, it is feared, is ever more possible.

At the same time, special UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed in a phone conversation that the international community must concentrate efforts to settle the conflict.

Lavrov has stressed on Russia's commitment to imminently organize an international meeting of all foreign stakeholders in the Syria crisis.

He also stated that in talks with German counterpart Guido Westerwelle, Russia and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to a diplomatic and political solution as the only one possible.
