Three lawmakers of Finland's nationalist Finns party have proposed a bill that would ban begging in public places.

The three MPs, Tom Packal?n, Jussi Halla-aho an Olli Immonen say they want a ban because begging by Roma from Bulgaria and Romania has risen sharply and become more aggressive in nature, Yle informs.

If the bill is passed, public order laws would be revised to fine beggars.

The proposal states that begging has a negative impact on public safety and that permitting begging does not reduce the poverty or discrimination that foreign Roma face in their home countries.

In recent years, Finnish cities have seen an influx of itinerant Roma, mainly from Romania and Bulgaria, many of whom beg on the streets.
