Bulgaria suffered hailstorm damages worth BGN 43 M in 2011, according to Nikolay Nikolov, Director of the Hail Suppression Agency at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
In a Monday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), he specified that the Agency was already protecting 1/3 of the country's territory, with efforts underway to expand its activity to the districts of Pleven, Dobruzdha and Karnobat.
Nikolov went on to say that two officials of the watchdog had been dismissed after hailstorms wiped out entire harvests in the village of Nedelino, Sliven district, near a training ground of the Agency.
He noted that the investigation into the case would continue until June 8, stressing that human errors were easy to prove.
A few days ago, heavy rains damaged the agricultural production in six villages in the Nedelino municipality.
A special commission will assess Monday the damage to crops and infrastructure in Nedelino caused by the torrential rains and hailstorms that hit the Nedelino municipality two days ago.
