A new outburst of deadly violence in Syria over the weekend has resulted in 89 deaths, including 57 deaths of army servicemen, report agencies.

Insurgents, fighting against the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad, have succeeded in killing dozens of soldiers attempting to restore order.

Syrian soldiers are reported to be vulnerable to the attacks of the opposition, being poorly trained for street combat.

In addition 29 civilians have fallen victims to the conflict, which has been raging since early 2011.

Last week's massacre of 108 civilians, including many children, in the town of Houla, alleged to have been perpetrated by forces loyal to Al-Assad, raised an international outcry, with many countries including Bulgaria breaking diplomatic relations with Syria.
