Bulgarian Roma Clans Clash in Fight for Woman

A mass fight erupted between two Roma clans in the southern Bulgarian town of Petrich overnight, with the police intervening.

After a signal for shooting in Petrich's Roma neighborhood, police arrived on the scene, but were not allowed full access.

They nevertheless detained two of the fighers.

The incident erupted after a representative of one of the clans took off for Macedonia with a contested woman from the neighborhood.

When representatives of the other clan saw the couple, they attacked the male.

During the time of the severe fighting between the families, a loud wedding ceremony was taking place in Petrich's Roma neighborhood, report media.

At present the situation has returned to normal.
