There are no high-profile cocaine lords who remain at large in Bulgaria, the country's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has declared after the arrest of alleged drug boss Evelin Banev aka Brendo.

According to Tsvetanov, "it would take years before Banev's caliber emerges."

"Many Bulgarian criminals think that they are in their own oasis here, but the agencies know almost everything," Tsvetanov has told reporters.

Evelin Banev was arrested by Bulgarian police authorities on May 16. The suspect had an Interpol arrest warrant in Switzerland on charges of trafficking 10 tons of cocaine from South America to Europe and money laundering.

On Friday, the Sofia Court of Appeals gave Banev permanent custody. The court's ruling is not subject to appeal.
