Bulgarian Mobile Operators Wholesale Prices to Drop Twofold in Jul

Bulgaria's Commission for Regulation of Communications, CRC, has obtained, as expected, permission from the European Commission to reduce twice the wholesale prices of mobile operators.

The reduction will become effective on July 1, and there will be a new one at the beginning of 2013, according to the Chairman of the CRC, Veselin Bozhkov, who announced the news Friday, speaking for the Bulgarian National Television, BNT.

In July, wholesale prices for cell phones will drop from BGN 0.13 per minute to BGN 0.06 per minute, and will fall below BGN 0.05 from January 1 2013, in cases of increased traffic.

Bozhkov points out Bulgarian operators will now offer services for average European prices, compared to the record-high BGN 0.38 per minute in 2007.

When asked how this will reflect on retail prices for consumers, the Chairman explained that starting July 1, the latter should pay 25% to 40% less, which will be reflected on their cell phone bills.

Operators can challenge this decision in Court, but Bozhkov voiced certainty the magistrates will rule against such claim.
