Unit 6 of Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant, Kozloduy, has been reconnected to the country's energy system after it was temporarily shut down on Saturday.

Unit 6 was shut down on Saturday due to a technical glitch that did not pose any risk of nuclear contamination, local authorities revealed on Sunday.

The temporary closure of the 1,000-megawatt unit was caused by a malfunction of a turbogenerator protection system at 7:52 pm local time on Saturday.

Kozloduy CEO Valentin Nikolov told the Bulgarian National Television that the Unit would be reconnected to the electric grid as of 9:00 am on Monday.

Unit 6 is currently working at 40% of its capacity, Nikolov said.

The defective transformer that caused the technical glitch has been replaced.

Kozloduy produces more than 30 % от of the total electrical power generated in the Balkan country.
