Syrian regime forces have killed more than 90 people in the area of Houla since midday Friday, opposition activists have stated.

The reported death toll was one of the highest in one area of the country since an internationally brokered ceasefire came into effect last month.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the massacre has been committed by Syrian regular forces, who have been shelling the city and firing heavy machine-guns throughout the day in an attempt to cripple the city before raiding it.

The attack is yet to be officially verified.
