The nations from the so called Salzburg Forum – a Central European regional body – have praised Bulgaria on its efforts to implement the security aspects of the EU Danube Region Strategy, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry announced.

Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetanov participated at the annual conference of the Salzburg Forum – a cooperation forum of the Interior Ministries of Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Romaina.

The other participants have lauded Bulgaria's efforts as a coordinator in the security area of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the Interior Ministry press service reported.

The Interior Ministers participating in the Salzburg Forum have also expressed satisfaction with the work of Europol, and have declared the need to seek options to use it more efficiently as opposed to expanding its powers.

After the Czech Republic, the Salzburg Forum is to be chaired by Hungary for the next six months, followed by Poland and Romania.

The Salzburg Forum was set up in 2001 at the initiative of the Austrian Interior Ministry; the forum works on security with the EU framework.
