A total of 19 out of Bulgaria's 28 districts have been put on Code "Yellow" alert over torrential rains, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute said Saturday, reaffirming an earlier warning.

The districts at risk over downpours of rain are Sofia, Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Lovech, Pleven, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte, Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Kardzhali, Haskovo, and Stara Zagora.

The Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences recommended that residents of Bulgaria be extremely cautious with travel over the next few days and that they follow weather forecasts closely.

Rain is expected to reach 35 liters per square meter in some parts of Bulgaria.

In contrast to almost all of the rest of the country, the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is expected to have beautiful weather over the weekend.

On Sunday, Southern and Central Bulgaria are expected to experience even stronger rains, raising the alert level to Code "Orange", the second highest.
