Each Bulgarian household affected by the 5.8-6.0 magnitude earthquake in Western Bulgaria on Tuesday will receive a one-time aid allowance of BGN 325 from the government, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov announced.

Borisov spoke late on Wednesday after meeting with President Rosen Plevneliev in order to inform him of the situation across Bulgaria after the strong earthquake, which, fortunately enough, incurred only minor material damages in Sofia, the western city of Pernik, and the town of Radomir.

In addition to the BGN 325 grants, which will be allocated by Bulgarian Employment Agency, the Bulgarian government is set to provide additional aid to those family whose homes were particularly badly damaged, and who need funding to rebuild them or to find new shelter.

Borisov also informed Plevneliev about the on-site inspections carried out by the government in the earthquake-affected regions, with particular focus on the stability of the water reservoir dams.

According to the press service of the Bulgarian Presidency, Plevnliev has praised the Cabinet (of which he used to be part until the fall of 2009) for its reaction and adequate measures in the aftermath of the earthquake.
