The earthquake that jolted Bulgaria on Tuesday has not affected the country's energy system and its dams, the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism has announced.

There are no problems in any of the Ministry's sectors, experts from the institution have said in a report.

The earthquake's intensity near Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant, Kozloduy, has been too low for the plant's alarm systems to be activated.

Energy company Bulgartransgaz has inspected its gas distribution stations, finding no damages.

Pernik Mayor Rositsa Yanakieva has already assured the city's residents that the wall of the city's "Studena" dam is safe and undamaged and there is no dangerĀ of flooding

The 5.9 magnitude jolt struck at 3:00am local time, about 25 km west of Sofia and at a depth of 9.4 km. Its epicenter is located about 6 km from the city of Pernik.

Dozens of buildings have suffered material damages in Sofia and Pernik, as well as in nearby villages.
