The number of football teams competing in Bulgaria's top-flight is be gradually reduced from 16 to 12 within three years, the Bulgarian Football Union has envisioned.

The move is supposed to make the championship more attractive, Bulgarian Football Union head Borislav Mihaylovb has explained.

A total of 14 clubs will play in Bulgaria's top division in the 2013/2014 season. Four first division teams would be relegated at the end of next season and only two would be promoted from the second division.

Only 12 teams will remain in the 2014/2015 season.

Once the regular season is over, the top 6 clubs will face each other two more times. The same will apply to the bottom 6 teams.
