The political dialogue and the cooperation between France and Bulgaria need a new boost, both in the sphere of bilateral relations and in an EU context, according to Bulgaria's Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Naydenov.

Speaking after a meeting with Simon Sutour, Chair of the European Affairs Committee of the French Senate, he stressed that France was a very important strategic partner for Bulgaria and called for intensifying the cooperation between the two countries on key issues on the European agenda.

Naydenov's talks with Sutour, who is on an official two-day visit to Bulgaria, revolved around Bulgaria's main priorities, including the country's Schengen bid, the EU cohesion policy, the common agricultural policy, and Bulgaria's stance on the multi-annual financial framework of the EU.

The Chair of the French Senate's European Affairs Committee assured that France would continue to back Bulgaria's accession to Schengen.

Sutour argued that Cohesion Fund support was not supposed to decrease, stressing the need for a more accurate balance in the distribution of funds by regions.
