Meglena Plugchieva, who was recently proposed as Bulgaria's next Ambassador to Switzerland, has announced her plans to "gradually withdraw from active politics."

Plugchieva, a former Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the absorption of EU funds (2008-2009), is to quit left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party's National Council, it was made clear on Monday.

She also considers putting an end to her membership in the party.

"I am happy that I will continue working for my country in a non-partisan manner as an Ambassador to Switzerland," Plugchieva told reporters on Monday.

The former Deputy Prime Minister declared that she will not deal with politics once her term as Ambassador is over, explaining that she wanted younger political figures to receive a chance.

Plugchieva drew a parallel between the Bulgarian and Swiss political lives, stating that Bulgarian politicians focus too much on "pure propaganda politics", while their Swiss counterparts are doing their best to serve their country's interest.

Meglena Plugchieva is currently a Bulgarian Socialist Party MP.
