Turkey's PM Boasts FDI Up 76% in 2011 y/y

Foreign direct investments, which Turkey attracted in 2011, were up by 76% over the previous year, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan said on Friday.

Speaking at the first session of the Seventh Investment Consultation Council meeting in Istanbul, Erdogan said that the Council meetings since 2004 have made crucial contributions to improving the investment climate in Turkey.

Turkey managed to attract international investments worth USD 18.5 B in 2008, USD 8.4 B in 2009, USD 9 B in 2010 and USD 16 B in 2011, Erdogan said, as cited by Anadolu agency.

Among the 34 members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, Turkey ranks 14th in terms of the amount of foreign investments attracted, Erdogan also said.
