Bulgaria's Professional Boxer, Reservist Pulev Gets Defense Ministry Award

Bulgaria's professional boxer Kubrat Pulev, aka "The Cobra", who is a reserve sergeant from the Bulgarian Army, has been awarded by Bulgarian Defense Minister Anyu Angelov for landing the EBU European heavyweight title.

Bulgarian boxer Kubrat Pulev won on Saturday the EBU European heavyweight title as he battered and stopped Alexander "Sascha" Dimitrenko of Germany (a Ukrainian native) in a face-off in the professional boxing championship in Erfurt, Germany.

Kubrat Pulev received from the hands of Gen. Anyu Angelov Wednesday a medal "For a Contribution to the Ministry of Defense" for his "incredible spirit, stamina, and great sports skill, and for services to the defense and prestige of the Republic of Bulgaria."

"It is a great honor for me to bestow this award. As a sergeant from the Center for Sports Skills at the Defense Ministry in 2008 Kubrat Pulev won the European boxing title for amateurs in Liverpool. Today, we welcome him as the European champion in the super heavyweight category in professional boxing," Bulgaria's Defense Minister stated.

"My special thanks go to the Minister of Defense Anyu Angelov. This is a precious and great award for me," said Pulev in return.

Reservist sergeant Kubrat Pulev served in the Center for Sports Skills at the Bulgarian Defense Ministry between 2005 and 2010, the Defense Ministry explained, reminding that in 2011, Pulev won the Intercontinental Title in the heavyweight category for professional boxers.
