At least 106 people have been wounded in an explosion of gas balloons in the downtown of the Armenian capital Yerevan.

Two of those wounded are children, according to the Armenian ministry of emergency situations, as cited by Interfax and BGNES.

No formal announcements have been made about the cause of the incident but local media say it might have been caused by a cigarette.

The incident occurred at final rally of the governing Republican Party before the Armenian Parliamentary Elections on May 6, 2012.
