"The crisis in Europe is far from over. But even after it is over, Europe will not be back where it was during the pre-crisis year of 2007. Global competition and demographic pressure are killing slowly and painfully the social state, which was Europe's most typical trait in the post-war period. In this sense the crisis is not just economic, but political too. Europe's post-war social contract, sealed after 1945, is put under question. Europe's political elites claim that there is no alternative to the policy of budgetary restrictions and this makes Europeans pessimistic and evil. Because when someone insists that there is no alternative, suspicions grow that this is just his alternative."
