Hollande to Win Run-Off for French President by 53% - Poll

Socialist candidate Francois Hollande remains the favorite to win the May 6 runoff of France's presidential election with 53% of the ballots, according to local polling agencies.

Pollsters estimate support for incumbent president Nicolas Sarkozy at 47%.

Hollande loses one point from the run-off survey held on April 22, while Sarkozy adds one point.

22% of the respondents who said they would go to the polling stations did not point out their favorite for the run-off.

Asked to tell who they would vote for if the elections were held on April 29, 34% of the first-round supporters of centrist candidate Fran?ois Bayrou backed Hollande, 40% backed Sarkozy and 26% did not name a candidate.

Meanwhile, 14% of the supporters of Marine Le Pen, leader of France's far-right Front National party, said they would back Hollande, 54% expressed their preference for Sarkozy, and 32% did not name a candidate.

Of the supporters of far-left Jean-Luc M?lenchon, 80% said they would back Hollande, 3% chose Sarkozy, and 17% did not cite a concrete name.

90% of the people who plant to back Francois Hollande said they were certain of their choice, as were 90% of the supporters of Sarkozy.

The poll was conducted via telephone on April 27 - 28 among 988 people over 18 years of age.

The first round of the 2012 presidential elections in France, which was held on April 22, ended in 28.6% of the votes for leftist Francois Hollande and 27.2% of votes for incumbent Sarkozy.
