Bulgaria's Gangs Shift from Drugs to Finance - Prosecutor

There are virtually no large criminal organizations in Bulgaria dealing in murder and drugs, according to Sofia City Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov.

According to Kokinov, speaking for the Bulgarian National Radio, murders and drugs are the specialization of a large network of smaller criminal organizations.

In addition to reducing their sizes, the Sofia Prosecutor opined that criminal groups are shifting their activities from drugs to financial crimes.

"Those old dinosaurs of organized crime are no more... Those mastodons engaging in drugs and murder are now extinct," quipped Kokinov.

The Sofia City Prosecutor stated that the Prosecutor's Office is making its best efforts to corner in those smaller organizations now in operation.
