The price of lamb meat in Bulgaria will not go drastically up for St. George's Day, said Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Foods Miroslav Naydenov Sunday.

St. George's Day is one of the most significant religious holidays for Bulgarian Orthodox Christians, and is marked May 6.

A roast lamb has been for centuries part of the traditional St. George's Day festive meal.

"Neither producers nor traders can afford artificially inflating prices before the holiday, for people are then just going to buy less," said Naydenov in an interview for Darik Radio.

"Our forecasts are that lamb meet will be chepear on St. George's than it was on Easter, and then even during Easter there was a drop in prices," added he.

A week before St. George's, Darik Radio quotes mean prices for live lamb meat at BGN 5-6, and end prices at BGN 12-15.
