Tree in Park Collapses, Kills Baby in Bulgaria

A large tree has collapsed onto two benches in a park in north-eastern Bulgarian city of Shumen, killing a 2-year-old child and critically injuring another person.

The 25-metre tall beech tree spontaneously collapsed onto two benches, on which a woman with her child and two young men were sitting.

The young child and the two youths were transported to the hospital, but the doctors could not save the life of the 2-year-old.

One of the youths is still in a critical condition due to the head injury he sustained. The other two persons involved have lighter wounds.

The Prosecutor's Office in Shumen has launched an investigation into the case.
