Legendary Bulgarian striker of FC Barcelona Hristo Stoichkov has made it clear that is saddened by the news that his former teammate Josep Guardiola will be quitting the Catalan club.

Stoichkov made this comment before a Spanish radio, as cited by BGNES, after it became clear earlier on Friday that Guardiola will no longer be FC Barcelona's coach after the end of the season as his contract will not be renewed.

"This is a sad day. The "last of the Mohicans" from the era of Johan Cruyff's is gone," stated the Bulgarian legend who, together with Guardiola was part of Barcelona's star team under Dutch manager Johan Cruyff in the 1990s.

"I am really saddened. This was part of Barcelona's mythology," Stoichkov said, adding that FC Barcelona will never have another coach such as Guardiola whose leadership led it to winning six different titles in 2009.

Stoichkov, who is known for his often controversial statements, said that Guardiola "probably doesn't get all the love that he deserves" in Barcelona but declined to elaborate on what he meant.

He did stress that FC Barcelona is far ahead of any other football team.
