Bulgaria has criticized Switzerland for the decision of its authorities to restore the quotas for foreign laborers from eight Eastern European member states of the EU (Bulgaria included).

"Bulgaria is concerned by the decision of the Swiss authorities to re-introduce quotas for foreign workers from eight European Union member states," Vesela Cherneva, spokesperson of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, declared in a special statement Thursday night.

"We regard this as a measure taken in haste that does not conform to the principles of freedom of movement within the European Economic Area," Cherneva said.

In her words, Bulgaria is concerned that Switzerland decided to implement protective measures without first consulting its partners in the EU.

"We believe that solidarity is the only way to tackle the economic crisis," her statement on the Swiss regulation on foreign laborers concludes.
