Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova has vowed cleaner water near the southern Black Sea resort of Sozopol.

Pavlova launched a project for deep water discharge of waste water in the town on Thursday.

The discharge point will be near the Sozopol yacht port.

In a Thursday statement, the Regional Development Minister explained that the method was a temporary solution aimed at saving the holiday season, given the 7% increase in tourist arrivals projected for the summer of 2012.

The wastewater will be discharged 60 meters into the sea via underwater pipes.

The project is worth around BGN 100 000.

The permanent solution to the problem involves the construction of a wastewater treatment facility in Sozopol.

The first stage of the wastewater treatment plant is to be completed for next summer.

Pavlova told journalists that the wastewater issue would take longest to solve in the southern Black Sea village of Ravda because of project documentation delays.

She noted that a temporary fix for the problem could also be applied there.
