Russia has fulfilled all its engagements concerning the Belene Nuclear Power Plant project that Bulgaria scrapped in March, according to Kirill Komarov, deputy head of Russian state-owned Rosatom's international business.

Komarov has pointed out that Russia and Bulgaria have signed a number of agreements for the fulfillment of the project.

"We are ready to carry out all production ordered by the Bulgarian side and we are waiting for payments," the official said on Tuesday, as cited by RIA Novosti.

Komarov reminded that Rosatom's subsidiary Atomstroyexport and Bulgaria's National Electricity Company are negotiating the size the debt Bulgaria has to pay after it quit Belene, adding that Rosatom hopes the negotiations to be completed as soon as possible.

The Rosatom official stated that the potential Russian participation in the construction of a new unit in Bulgaria's Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant is not currently negotiated.

The Bulgarian government recently announced its plans to expand its already existing NPP after giving up building a new one at Belene.

The government proposed that a gas-powered plant is built on the site in Belene.
