Over 30 CCTV cameras are to be installed this week in Sofia's Borisova Gradina Central Park in a bid to boost the security of the citizens.

Under the initiative of the Sofia Municipality, the first parts of the park to be placed under video surveillance will be the main alleys connecting the Ariana lake and the lily lake.

In the case of an accident on the site, Sofia police will be able to respond immediately.

Surveillance footage will be stored for a month.

CCTV cameras will also be mounted at the pedestrian zone from the main building of the Sofia University to Orlov Most, the Patriarch Evtimiy Square, Yuzhen Park (the Southern Park), the Central Sofia Cemetery and the Malashevtsi Cemetery.

Main road arteries, newly repaired underpasses, major squares, parks and public gardens, as well as 200 schools will also be placed under 24-hour surveillance.

Over 3000 CCTV cameras have already been installed in Sofia.

The municipal administration in Sofia has allocated a total of BGN 3 M for the additional surveillance equipment to be installed this year.
