The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement Monday condemning the upsurge of violent Taliban activity in Afghanistan's capital Kabul.

"The coordinated attacks against offices of institutions in Afghanistan during the last 24 hours are a heavy encroachment against the common efforts of authorities and the international community to establish peace and stability in the region," says the statement.

The Bulgarian Foreign Affairs also expresses Bulgaria's condolences to the relatives of those who tragically died in the attacks.

"Bulgaria re-affirms once again its support for the Afghan government and the Afghan security forces, who successfully managed the critical situation," adds the Ministry.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that the Taliban attacks were signs of a serious breach not only of Afghan, but also of NATO intelligence.

Monday a lone attacker, dressed as an Afghan soldier, opened fire on a Bulgarian ISAF unit moving in the city of Kandahar.

The Bulgarians returned the fire, killing the attacker, without no one of them being hurt.

Gen Atanas Samandov, commander of the Bulgarian NATO forces in Afghansitan commented for the Bulgarian National Radio that the attacker might have been a part of the Taliban upsurge.
