Banks, Retail Chains in Bulgaria Toughen Security ahead of Easter

A number of major banks and retail chains in Bulgaria have adopted tougher security measures during the Easter holidays.

Some of the bigger banks in the country ordered the money from the vaults in the smallest and most far-off branches to be transported in armored trucks to the vaults in the regional offices which have tighter security.

The cash receipts were collected on the evening of Thursday, the last work day before the Easter holidays, private TV channel bTV reported on Friday.

Under the stricter regime, all ATMs will be checked by a security patrol at least twice a day and once per night, not only after tip-offs about a technical problem or a cash shortage.

Meanwhile, police are still on the lookout for the men who robbed an armored cash truck two days ago near Sevlievo.

The brazen robbery took place overnight on Wednesday on the road between the town of Sevlievo and the city of Gabrovo in central Bulgaria.

The exact sum stolen remains unknown, but unconfirmed reports put the figure at some BGN 2 M.
